The Shang-Chi movie is shaping up to be the biggest movie of 2012. The movie already has a top-notch cast with Simu Liu as Shang-Chi and Tony Chiu-Wai Leung as The Mandarin. Akwafina (Crazy, Rich, Asians) is in Australia in pre-production on the film. There are rumors that she's playing The Mandarin's daughter Fah Lo Suee. Now a new rumor is circling that another popular Asian actress is going the cast.

A rumor is making the rounds that Marvel is working to get Michelle Yeoh to join the cast in an unnamed role. Yeoh previously had a cameo role in Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol II as Aleta Ogord / Starhawk. Starhawk is a superheroine with the power to create solid light objects. In the comics, she's a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

It looks like Marvel has other plans for Yeoh and is looking to cast her into a new role. Many are speculating that the 47-year old actress will be playing Awkafina's mother.

Michelle Yeoh Choo-Kheng, known professionally as Michelle Yeoh, is an actress from Malaysia. She broke into movies in the 1990s in Hong Kong action films like Police Story 3: Supercop (1992) and Holy Weapon (1993). Her first big break in Hollywood came in the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies (1997). After that her starring role in the martial arts film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) made her a household name.

Recently she starred in Star Trek: Discovery as Captain Philippa Georgiou. Yeoh was in talks to star in her own series but it's been pushed to after Discovery's third season.

The movie is lining up to be a powerful film in Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Shang-Chi director, Destin Daniel Cretton, recently said why he signed onto the Marvel Studios project. "I grew up without a superhero to look up to," Cretton explained. "I would love to give my son a superhero to look up to. I feel very privileged to be a part of telling that story."

It's wonderful to see Asian actresses in demand especially ones that are over the dreaded over 40 range that many actors struggle with. Hopefully, they can sign her on. An actress of her talent needs to be in the MCU.
