Paramount dropped the newest trailer for Terminator: Dark Fate. The new movie takes place 27 years after Terminator 2: Judgment Day and skips over the two sequels. It makes it the sixth movie in the franchise but the third in James Cameron's films. A new Terminator played by Gabriel Luna is sent from the future by Skynet. It has orders to terminate Dani Ramos (Natalia Reyes) but a soldier from the future named Grace (Mackenzie Davis) is sent back to protect her. They team up with an aging Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) to stop the advanced AI Skynet from fulfilling its mission to eradicate humanity.
It's full of mind-blowing action but along the way, there are a few surprises.
Here are a few things you may have missed in the new Terminator: Dark Fate trailer.
First, watch the new trailer for the latest Terminator movie.
Skynet creates more than one model of its Terminator. The T-800 is the first one we meet in the movies but that number has been expanded to include the T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgment Day. But Skynet's trusty T-800 is still in action as we see several rising from the ocean on the beach.
In one scene we see a Terminator named Rev-9 appears to split in two. But he's not actually splitting in two. Played by Gabriel Luna he's the latest hunter-killer robot made by Skynet to hunt the heroes.
He's a mix of the first T-800 Terminator and the T-1000 liquid polymer alloy (Robert Patrick) from Terminator 2: Judgment Day. He has a metal endoskeleton and a shape-changing outer skin. Rev-9 can separate into two parts and operate independently.
In a flashback (forward) the bleak landscape of the future is shown with piles of human bones littering the landscape. This has been seen in several of the movies starting with the first one where a machine endoskeleton crushes the bones under its feet.
We don't know much about the future but we do know that in the future bodies are left to rot on the ground but bones are left perfectly preserved. Maybe it's a warning? Maybe this movie will explain it.
Somehow Skynet adapts and the future is still controlled by Skynet. But how?
There's a scene where Grace is on a hospital bed flanked by guards. A doctor checks one of her wounds and you can make out the glint of metal under the flesh. In both Terminator and Judgment Day, there's a scene where the Terminator exposes the metal under the skin.
We've seen Grace easily overpower Sarah and powers through hospital guards. "I've never seen one like you before," Sarah says. "Almost human." She assumes Grace (Mackenzie Davis) is another Terminator with human skin over robotic parts. But she has a surprise for her. "I am human," Grace says. "Just enhanced". Grace is a soldier-assassin converted to a cyborg. A human being melded or fused with a machine.
At one point Grace says "I'm here to protect you". In the first movie, Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn) is sent back in time to protect John Connor (Edward Furlong). In T2 a Terminator is sent back in time to protect Connor again. Who is Grace here to protect? Sarah or Dani Ramos (Natalia Reyes)? Dani is a mysterious character and is extremely important for some reason. Grace is here to protect her from the future. But why?

Here are a few things you may have missed in the new Terminator: Dark Fate trailer.

Here's the latest poster
T-800
Rev-9
He's a mix of the first T-800 Terminator and the T-1000 liquid polymer alloy (Robert Patrick) from Terminator 2: Judgment Day. He has a metal endoskeleton and a shape-changing outer skin. Rev-9 can separate into two parts and operate independently.
Piles of Skulls
We don't know much about the future but we do know that in the future bodies are left to rot on the ground but bones are left perfectly preserved. Maybe it's a warning? Maybe this movie will explain it.
The Future
"August 29th, 1997, was supposed to be Judgement Day," Sarah says. "But I changed the future, saved three billion lives. Enough of a resume for you?" in Terminator and Terminator 2 they were supposed to have stopped Judgement Day, the day Skynet takes over the world and starts destroying humanity, from happening. "No," Grace says. "You may have changed the future, but you didn’t change our fate.Somehow Skynet adapts and the future is still controlled by Skynet. But how?
Grace
We've seen Grace easily overpower Sarah and powers through hospital guards. "I've never seen one like you before," Sarah says. "Almost human." She assumes Grace (Mackenzie Davis) is another Terminator with human skin over robotic parts. But she has a surprise for her. "I am human," Grace says. "Just enhanced". Grace is a soldier-assassin converted to a cyborg. A human being melded or fused with a machine.
"I'm Here to Protect You"
"When This is All Over, I Am Going to Kill You"
Arnold Schwarzenegger plays an aging T-800 Terminator. While the new movie skips over the sequels there's a story in between the first and second films. Apparently, Skynet sent several T-800's to kill John and Sarah and one of them abandoned its mission and lives in seclusion. Even though a Terminator saved her life in T2 Sarah doesn't see a good or bad Terminator. She only wants to kill them all.
Arnold only says "I understand".
When the battle is over Linda Hamilton drops a grenade over the bridge and says "I'll be back". Then she casually walks away as the others dive for cover from the massive explosion. This is a classic line from the first Terminator movie. The T-800 says it right before storming the police station. It's been used in every Terminator movie. Arnold says a slight variation of the phrase in Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991). He tells Sarah and John "Stay here, I'll be back."
In Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003) Arnold says "She'll be back" about the evil T-X terminator. John Connor (Christian Bale) gets to say the line in Terminator Salvation (2009). His wife (Kate Brewster) asks "What should I tell your men when they find out you're gone?". He says "I'll be back".
In Terminator Genisys (2015) it's said twice. First by the Guardian before jumping for a helicopter and Kyle Reese says it before teleporting back to 1984. This means every member of the main cast of Terminator has used the line in some form.
"I'm not allowed to say anything um, but yeah, yeah man, I mean it's a small role but it's, you know, I'm in there, man!" Furlong told TheArnoldFans.com. "I'm in there... It was like a blessing man. I was very excited you know, like really uh, yeah I was trying to turn my life around at that point, so I mean it was uh, it was kinda a good call to get, you know? It kinda felt like a gift from all that you know, plus I was supposed to do the other Terminator but I done f***** that s*** up, So I gotta tell you, I was proud [for Dark Fate]"
So his role may be so small it doesn't affect the plot like a cameo. Or it might be so big he's downplaying the part. We won't know until the movie opens in November 2019.

Edward Furlong

Finally, there's someone we don't see. Edward Furlong, who played John Connor in T2 is reprising his role but doesn't appear in the trailer. Terminator 2 was Furlong's big break but a series of well-publicized problems with alcoholism and drug addiction left his career in ruins. Now he's back and recently talked about what the role means to him. So where is Edward Furlong in the Terminator: Dark Fate trailer?
"I'm not allowed to say anything um, but yeah, yeah man, I mean it's a small role but it's, you know, I'm in there, man!" Furlong told TheArnoldFans.com. "I'm in there... It was like a blessing man.
